Streaming Overlays
Fun, personalized overlay designs for video game streaming.
One of my passions is gaming. I’ve been playing video games since I was a kid, and I’ve attempted to share my love of gaming with other people over Twitch. To do that, it helps to have a personalized stream overlay that can communicate who you are at a glance. Over the last few years, I’ve designed several stream overlays for myself and friends, and while I’m no master of the craft, it’s certainly fun. Take a look!
For a few months I dabbled in streaming video games on Twitch. In doing so, I developed a personal brand under the nickname “Haimatox”. The X logo was used as a profile picture for various social media. I also designed streaming overlays for myself and friends. While the overlays were fairly rudimentary, they were functional and delivered the viewer the needed information.
The overlays I created for friends were my first experience designing something for a client, rather than just for myself. Because the overlays my friends needed were generally similar in layout, the customization came more from the colors, fonts, and other details.
In 2020, I decided to perform a rebranding, switching out the Haimatox nickname which was beginning to feel a bit childish. When creating new overlays, I made a goal of reducing clutter. I achieved a cleaner look by simplifying the textures and colors used. Even though I retired the Haimatox nickname, I made sure that my old “X” logo lived on as a subtle background pattern.
